Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher is looking forward to giving something back to the local community, after it was revealed that his charity will be providing free football coaching sessions in the Bootle area of the city.
Carragher - who called time on his glittering 17-year playing career at the end of last season - says he is happy to give something back to local supporters.
"With myself finishing playing, we decided this was a great way for me to stay involved on the football side of it," Carragher told the Liverpool Echo.
"I'm in a lucky position where I'm able to do something to help. "I can because of the Foundation and the money we have been able to raise."
The 23 foundation will offer the free coaching sessions to six primary schools available in the Bootle area of the city. Carragher stressed the fact that this isn't just about football and emphasised the wider scale this initiative can impact on.
"But it's not just about the football side of it, we're hoping it will push them on with their education as well," Carragher added.
"Who gets the coaching is probably going to be done on a reward basis as there are only a select number of places. Hopefully that will act as an incentive for kids to attend school and behave themselves in lessons."
Carragher is also set for a media role at Sky Sports for the 2013/14 season, as he continues to take part in the game after his retirement. He will team up with, former rival, Gary Neville - who was previously captain of Manchester United.
For now though, Carragher will be hoping for his charity to succeed through the football programme before he takes up his role within media.
